At SAMS today we read with some amusement the blog from the head of the HSE Judith Hackitt concerning the views of Bear Grylls (Chief Scout) over the refusal of the administrators of an allotment to allow scouts to be allocated one on the basis of health and safety.
Mr Grylls felt so strongly about this that he launched an attack on “officialdom, bureaucracy, over cautiousness and even self-protection”
The HSE have now added their bit by stating, via the blog, that he was correct to attack this culture and that the refusal had nothing to do with health and safety.
Judith then went on to state that:
“We need many more “can do” communities, a lot less jobsworths and more of the silent majority challenging decisions made in the name of health and safety. The HSE’s Myth Busting Challenge Panel took this on and their view can be seen here.
At SAMS Ltd we work a lot around the country on events and all that can be said, with a sigh of resignation, is that we agree.
